FOUR men from Burton have been convicted of sexually abusing a teenage girl.
Three defendants were found guilty by a jury at Stafford Crown Court of sexual activity with a child, and one man of attempting to rape the 15-year-old.
A fifth defendant, Ameer Arshad, 18, of Waterloo Street, was acquitted of inciting the girl to engage in sexual activity but convicted of a charge of blackmail.
Haroon Hafeez, 18, also of Waterloo Street, was cleared of three counts of sexual activity with the girl.
The jury heard that Junaid Ali tried to force himself on the girl when he and fellow defendant Anees Hanif visited in spring last year.
Junaid, 20, of Shobnall Street, was found guilty of attempted rape.
Hanif, 19, of Norfolk Road, Stapenhill, was convicted of two charges of sexual activity with the girl and one of inciting a child to sexual activity.
He was acquitted of one further allegation of sexual activity.
The girl told police officers that in October 2012 she twice had sex with Umber Farrouq, 21, of Belvedere Road, who was convicted of two charges of sexual activity with her.
Matab Ali, 21, of Gordon Street, was also convicted of two counts of sexual activity with the girl.
The jury heard about explicit Facebook conversations between the girl and Arshad, although his barrister, Mohammad Khan, claimed his client had been ‘joking’ when he threatened to show of a topless photo of the schoolgirl to her brother unless she paid him £50.
Arshad was found guilty of blackmail.
All the defendants had denied all the charges against them.
Judge Mark Eades adjourned for pre-sentence reports on all five defendants and they will be sentenced next month.
Matab Ali, Hanif and Junaid Ali were all remanded in custody.
Farrouq and Arshad were given bail.
