A taxi driver has been accused of committing grievous bodily harm by using his vehicle.
Urfan Yasin, 30, of Stanley Road, Eastmoor, Wakefield in West Yorkshire is charged with wounding Curtis Simpson with intent following an incident in Wesley Street, Castleford, just before Christmas.
Prosecutor Diane Gomersall said Yasin was working as a taxi driver at the time of the incident on December 21.
It is alleged Yasin purposefully drove his vehicle at the pedestrian and it hit him.
No plea was entered at Wakefield Magistrates’ Court.
Mohammed Hussain, defending, said one of the current bail conditions prohibited his client from driving a motor vehicle.
The solicitor told the bench: “He is a taxi driver and due to this condition he can’t carry out his employment.”
Magistrates lifted the condition and sent the case for trial at Leeds Crown Court.
But Yasin first faces a preliminary hearing there on May 22..
Final thought.
Why was there a restriction on any media outlet reporting this serious incident ? Nationalists should make their way to the Crown Court in Leeds to protest at the way this case is being handled, if it had been the other way round there would've been an outcry.
